Why European keys are different
A Toyota or Honda key is a chip paired to the immobilizer. European makers went several steps further: BMW and Mini keys are tied to the CAS or FEM/BDC module, Mercedes-Benz keys are encrypted by the FBS system, and Audi and VW keys live inside the MQB or BCM2 platform with secured component protection. The key itself is a small computer that has to be matched to the car with factory-grade security data.

Can you really make a BMW or Mercedes key without the dealer?
Yes. We are NASTF Vehicle Security Professional registered, which gives licensed locksmiths legal access to the same secure key data the dealer uses. Combined with factory-grade programming tools in the van, that lets us replace lost keys for BMW, Mini, Mercedes-Benz (FBS3), Audi, VW, Porsche, Land Rover and Volvo on-site. How long does a European all-keys-lost job take?
Plan on 45–90 minutes once we arrive, depending on the module and whether the car has aftermarket alarms or a dead battery. Arrival in urban Honolulu is usually 20–30 minutes, so most customers are driving again within about two hours of calling — versus two to five days at a dealership.
